A Smile In The Rain Poem by Joyce Hemsley

A Smile In The Rain

If you must leave and deceive me Marie.
Remember to take your precious possessions.
You need never visit the cottage again
We can say our goodbyes at the doorway
In the rain.

Painful and sombre, as I know it will be
I will live tomorrow in sorrow Marie.
When you are gone, I shall have to be strong
And pray everyday to the Angelic array
Up in heaven.

No more will my life hold pretty delights
I will sit and think of those glamorous nights
When you danced with me ~ were true to me
When you held the key to my heart Marie.
Thinking we'd never part.

But if you must leave and deceive me Marie,
Remember to take your treasured possessions
It must be goodbye for evermore... because
In a few minutes I will open the door
You will wave 'goodbye' in the rain

Nice dichotomy using the face pacing rhyme against such a sorrowful subject matter, very good job.
