Fear
Drives me
To your side
My enigmatic love
Formidable after dark
Despite drenching rain
Keeps me safe and warm
You're fire burning bright
Hearts opened with delight
Strangers share a free meal
Stretching into conversation
Your simple love is my home
In the middle of the jungle
Though there be ogres and
Trolls, you make them bow
Respectfully by your hand
Bridging the distance of
Strangeness to one of
Stark cognizance
A white heron
Heeding a
Distant
Call
Yes, Kostas. Poets are like herons answering a distant call. I wish that our ears will never be dulled so as to always hear this call no matter how distant. I hope you can speak of the language of crickets always, :)
As a peace symbol, the white heron symbolizes humans' decency (purity) . In this poem, the heron is someone fragile and trusting, forced to take sanctuary in someone's abode to pass the night, and discovers unusual kindness. In this life, we need to take chances, and what started as mere convenience could turn out into something surprisingly beautiful. This is a poem on the good side of humanity, which is unselfish and compassionate.
