A Woman From Boherbue Poem by Francis Duggan

A Woman From Boherbue

The lilt of her accent i did recognize
And when she told me where she came from me it did not surprise
From a Town in Duhallow known as Boherbue
A place that was once quite familiar to me.

She has lived in Australia since she was twenty one
And with her and her Aussie partner was their two years old son
A nice brown haired little fellow at me he did smile
The very young are innocent and free of guile.

Her partner an Aussie in his late twenties a happy sort of a bloke
The type who could tell or laugh at a good joke
He flashed a broad smile as we did shake hands
saying a long way from here to Millstreet in Ireland.

She came to Australia in 1998
And at Moonee Ponds near Melbourne she met her soul mate
And in Moonee Ponds she lives and there she will stay
From Boherbue Town quite some distance away.

A mother in her late twenties with shoulder length brown hair
And many things in common with her i do share
Though Ballarat in Victoria seems a strange place to meet
For a woman from Boherbue and a man from Millstreet.
