About To Go Home.... Poem by RIC BASTASA

the laughter is loud
employees are going home
after a hard day's work

it is raining hard and
they are staying for a while
waiting for the rain to stop

it is this feeling of elation
when one is going home
shedding off hardships
and thickened sorrows
syrupy hang-ups and
sticky disappointments
and that feeling that it were
not for the need of money
to support a family, send a
child to school, or
make money for everyone's
survival, one would not have
the temerity to keep on working,

the home garden, the family joys,
the hope of children, and
the demands of the future
and this going home everyday
at the end of the day
makes one's life as always
meaningful decorated still
with that badge of purpose.
