Advancement? Poem by Ian Bowen

Advancement?

Advancement!
That’s a bloody laugh.
Give me back
the old days….

better by half.

Only one phone call,
number straight
through, direct.
No options one to ten….

and then again to select.

Bills for commodities,
forwarded in estimation.
I don’t owe that much….

is my calculation.

Pay a fortune for water
that falls on MY roof.
Dentist charges three figures….

for pulling one tooth.

Red letters, followed by
a courtesy call,
just to make sure….

we’ve not moved to Bengal.

Customer services really
hate our very guts,
but politely inform us ….

of life saving cuts.

Buy one, get twenty free,
they soon may say,
as they package poison…

day by day.

No wonder it costs
so very little,
full of the inedible….

the devils vittles..

Advancement!
That’s a bloody joke,
our youth living on….

Breezers and Coke.

Yes chaos rules this so called
modern day era.
You think it’s all cheap….

but in fact, life’s dearer.
