Aftermath Poem by Lauren Harper

Aftermath

Every word you say stabs another hole in my heart.
Creating a melodious river of blood.
That escapes my very core

Your cursed words like needles attack.
Tearing my fortified mind into shards.
But just wait, for it is only the start.

I'll wait,
I'll take every word you say.
I'll nod, and reply with okay.

I'm not but a child after all,
Who am I to say what is on my mind.
Because in the end, words will never be kind.

You demand that I stand tall.
You vie me to stand for what I believe.
But if I did, you would not receive the words that my mouth would conceive.

After all these years,
There's one thing in particular I've learned.
Sit and take the words, even though on the inside the fate of your existence churns.

Every thing will be okay,
Maybe not the next week, surly not the next day,
But girl you'll find serenity through the haze.
