Ageing Colin Poem by Francis Duggan

Ageing Colin

From his wife and grown family he is far away
Escorting wide loads through outback W A
Eight thousand kilometres northwest of Upwey
He is young at heart though he is ageing and gray.

Colin in his sixties is still going strong
To the hardier breed he is one who belong
The old one for the hard road happens to be true
And give the man credit the credit he is due.

The wide load escort driver works hard and lives rough
And for such a job many young men are not tough enough
For the youngest and strongest such a job a hard ask
But ageing Colin is one who seems up to the task.

Ageing Colin is a happy go lucky sort of a bloke
He spins a good yarn and he laughs at a joke
Through the winding roads of the big countryside
He escorts big trucks carrying loads that are wide.
