Alan At 18 Poem by Paul Warren

Alan At 18

Being young together is true
Growing and learning is what you do
And you didn't age from 18
When cancer took you unclean

If you had my 50 years
To achieve what was taken in tears
What would you have done
And what would you have become

I try to see your face
But it seems so out of place
And veiled in my later years
It seems not at all clear

I wonder what your parents thought
When their sacrifices came to nought
And they saw me growing strong and true
When your chance was lost so finally too.
