Alien Encounters Poem by derrick foster

Alien Encounters

In this world but not of this world
an alien in a strange land, stranded on foreign soil
longing to be somewhere else
a visitor world apart
waiting to be out there
a person in disguise
rising to a higher consciousness
willing to be reborn
not to be replaced
in this new place
paying penance
hoping to be regenerated
with a new sense of purpose
fresh to the world
though feeling as if here before
in this world not of this world
an alien in an odd body
a fish out of water
not like self but an imposter
planted on strange unfamiliar territory
a blind man in a deaf world
feeling the way through
in hopes getting the lay of land
testing these outer limits
on the outside looking in;
searching for someplace else
belonging to another; an extra terrestrial
existing outside
no longer exempt from this place; this reality
only to be grounded in the usual
refusing to relinquish the unusual
maintaining the difference
though i reside on foreign ground,
i am at home on the inside.
i know the difference.
