Alone Poem by Janis Land Raymer

Alone

No one heard my cries
You all had better things to do
He was your priority, mom
I was struggling, but you never knew.
Dad, you were drinking and partying,
much too loudly to notice my pain.
When he started to stalk,
I was too naive to know what was up.
I thought I'd found a friend
to listen and with whom to talk.
Then he betrayed me in the worst way,
stealing my trust and one gift.
I was damaged and very alone,
a victim of one I thought friend.
Never before or since
have I felt so hopeless than the day
he took my innocence away.
