Amidst The Gloom Poem by Ola Joseph Kolawole

Amidst The Gloom

AMIDST THE GLOOM

“My God, My God…
Why have You forsaken me?
Why are You so far from my deliverance?
And from my words of groaning?

Words of a forsaken servant
Throned upon the awful tree
As darkness veiled His anguished face
Whose warm blood had wet the hard soil

Perfectly silent as those 3 hours pass by
Busy was He wrestling with darkness
Left alone with the sins of men
Hanging patiently on the tree of perfection

Should I pass through the valley of shadow
Where everything seems black and bad
Teach me by those painful groans of Yours
To love thee more… amidst the gloom.
