And How It Is You Teach Me Poem by johannes lewinsky

And How It Is You Teach Me

And how it is you teach me
From all that you haven't
Known or seen yet in you is
More than i have ever in spite
Of all that i have yet

Whereas i can give but a pale imitation you
Can concretise from out the depths of your soul
A time space whole space made complete
That never yet been seen or known has till you

This you space you envisaged and embroidered
In the brightest primary colours juxtaposed and built
Into a patchwork of living bricks that breathe and give
New sense new meaning to every landscape you elect

And from the depths of the sleep i've slept i recognise
The hallmarks of the genius i've sought and only found
In moments of the direst disintegration when all i thought
was lost in you indigenous accessible and prescient

And how you have to me shown the simplest things to do have
That most of everyone does and i never out of natural
disinclination to oblige a despotic system where you see only
the chance to practise your natural gift for fun & ingenuity

is a daily revelation to me is how in you not me
i may look to find all that i have so long believed
is what it is to be a human being is
not manufactured fashioned out of years
of education and reflection but inherent in
and wholly with all that you are and would
