I still recall that fateful day you came
Into our life—a day o’er three decades
Old, but still fresh in this mind filled with blame,
The memory so deep it never fades;
And I well understand you were upset—
Upset that I was not there to take you
In my proud arms, fond eyes and feelings wet,
I too no less than you that sad day rue.
I know you scarce had time even to cry,
Nor wait for me many a mile apart,
And with your ma deep in induced sleep nigh,
You left soon as came that day, broken heart,
To leave us for a sterile life-long search
For you, ye for a more welcoming perch!
