POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Today is my brother's birthday and I greet him with this poem in our native language, Pilipino. No matter how far we've grown apart, our struggles will always bring us together. He was named after our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. He is my own hero, too, for writing books, teaching Rizal Course innovatively and emulating Jose Rizal in his own life, something millennials may not be drawn to do. Happy birthday Joe on this 2nd day of July!
