Angel Forever Poem by Aimee Rozen

Angel Forever

Inspired by the short story by Ursela Le Guin 'Walking Away from Omelas'

Angel forever with no place to go,
Tied up with chains he stays,
Sorrow fills his downcast eyes,
Bleeding and torn he waits,
Stolen by the enemy,
True feelings lost eternally,
Darkness closes all around,
Beaten and hurt he fades away,
Reality is malevolent,
Nothing worth his energy,
Time consumed only with pain,
Wishing for death by day and by night.

In the darkness of a closet,
You too may see,
Your salvation,
My salvation,
In this little boy,
Our angel will last forever,
In the darkness and the pain,
To save our world,
Our perfect world of you and me,
His suffering gives us happiness,
His pain gives us peace,
The tears that fall bring ecstasy,
The hurt that one endures,
Brings bliss to thousands,
Would you be the little boy?
The little angel savior?
Give your joy and give your life,
For everyone else?
This little boy must always hurt,
Must always shed his tears,
Because he is our savior,
Our angel forever.
