As We Are Told Poem by Francis Duggan

As We Are Told

Life is about winning as we are told
But winners like losers eventually grow old
Immortality for human beings is based on a lie
We are born as mortals and mortals do die

Not everyone receives from life what is their due
But that money speaks every language happens to be true
So many examples of this one can give
In most pars of the World one doe need it to live

One example the multi millionairess years beyond her life's prime
In her late seventies on the wrong side of time
She divorced her aged husband who had lost his sexual drive
And with her new lover young enough to be her grandson she feels young and alive

But for the wealthy like the poor there is a last night and day
That we all run out of time only true for to say
Tomorrow will dawn and yesterday has gone
But we live in the now and life does go on.
