Atonement Poem by manaswini dash

Atonement

Rating: 5.0

What is the definition of sin?
While searching for the answer to this question
I went on doing sin after sin.
After crossing all the limits
I became a great sinner.
Then I started lamenting on my deeds.
How to get salvation now?
I must do some good deeds to become a pious soul.
So-
I became a cloud and
shower rain on the earth to make it a greenery.
I became a seed and
germinate to became a big tree
to absorb all the poison from the earth.
I became a river
and flowed with a melodious sound,
spreading a smooth bed of love and hope
I became a candle flame
and burnt myself
to destroy the games of malice and animosity.
I became a stream of fragrant, gentle breeze
and played the game of hide and seek
In the gap of newborn soft leaves
and gently touched the pious souls.
I slept on the ground like a log
and endure everybody's kick.
I drowned in the sea of poison
and drank all the envenomed water.
Then I blew the fountain of nectar
which extinguished the flame of suspicion
and brought the stream of peace and happiness everywhere.
I have done so many deeds
only to have a warm hug from you
Still you did not extend your divine hands towards me.
Oh, God! Please tell me
Didn't I became a pious soul till now
after doing so much atonement?

To err is human but to atone for one's misdeeds (or sins) is not so easy. The sublime way exhibited by the poet makes it a real masterpiece, a literary marvel. Thanks, Dear Poet. I quote your words: Oh, God! Please tell me Didn't I became a pious soul till now after doing so much atonement?
