I cuddled him
gently
for hours
and hours
like I cuddle my beloved cat
discretely
slowly
almost secretely
and firmly.
I cuddled him tenderly
like my fingers
were magnets
stronger than despair,
unwinding the palm of my right hand
on his shoulder
like a shield to protect him
from the rising abyss
of white darkness.
I cuddled him
just like I could.
