The trees danced
In the chilly Autumn night
As moonlight glistened
Over the rippling river bed
We exchanged cigarettes
With Jack Daniel as our witness
The whiskey grew cold
As the night grew colder
At last he whispered
My dearest friend
We jumped into that river
Jimmy, Jeremy and Carolyn, you and I
To swim to the other side
In the chilly Autumn of 1959
Young we were
Mad in friendship
We swam 3 miles
Across the great Mississippi
But tonight
We two are only left
And a bottle of Jack Daniel
As our witness
