Autumn's Call Poem by Richard D Remler

Autumn's Call

...........................

Mr. Winter,
Such a prideful bloke,
Who seldom smiled
And never spoke,
Sauntered in
One Autumn day,
And sent things
Into disarray.
The air, it chilled
Beyond belief,
And he stole our
Calm, just
Like a thief.
He brought the
Grayest clouds around,
And sprinkled snow
Upon the ground.

When Ms. Spring thought
To trundle through,
She brought the green,
She brought the blue.
She warmed the air
With gentle rain,
And the roses budded
New again,
Watercolors stroked
The sky,
Waking
The sleeping butterfly,
And the earth,
Once more
Blossomed new,
Like a vagabond
Just passing through.

When Summer
Whispered
Through the trees,
As quiet as the dragonbees,
He awakened every centipede,
And every dandelion seed.
The hummingbird
And tak-raccoon
Spied the early Summer moon,
Just to serenade
Their afternoon
As crickets do in
Late, late June.
Humid nights brought
Heavy rains,
That tapped against
The window panes,
And Summer shared
His wealth of sun,
Before our Summer time
Was done.

Autumn finally
Wandered in.
Like the final notes
On violin,
And decorated
Our small town,
Painting every
Green leaf brown.
The Summer winds
That drifted 'round
Our bonnet trees
Could not be found.
Instead we had
An Autumn chill
That quieted the
Whippoorwill,
And whispered frost
Like old men do
When ice claims
The soft morning dew,
And Autumn nights
Are finally through.
