Awake At Night Poem by Eman Elbadawi

Awake At Night

The blind do think
The night is black
Too sure—they say—
To need look back
And see.
Stars are too faint
To bother
And tire
The eyes to see.
At night
All draw the curtains thick
Turn on the light
Enough to see.

When night comes
Turn off all light
And hold the morning's breath
And breathe the quiet
Consume the mind
To see
And search the blue
To find
How raise the curtains
That with mercy conceal
What if reveal
Must blind the sun
With the most most pure light

Yet from the stars
To the moon
I breach
A flight
To reach
And fill
With the midnight blue
Near half dissolved
Near half dissolving
In pure pure light
I drink deep drink
And beat it with the red
Plant in the heart
An ever wakened violet
And let
Remain

How can we sleep the night?
How come we slip the bright
And blur
With the morning sun?
Tonight
Dissolve it in the moon
And the star twin
Dive
In those blues
And
Sink
In breathing
Life!
