Back In The Day Poem by Bobby Mitchum

Back In The Day

We had no time
for Childish toys,
for we were Men
we were not Boys,
no time for School
nor college halls
no time for Girls
nor black tie balls.
We left Our Dads
We left Our Moms
We did not attend
Our High School Proms.
Our Country called
and we went away
and we became Soldiers
in just one day.
The gave us boots
they gave us guns
and we had to do
what had to be done.
When we returned
the world had changed
the Crowds cried out
You should be ashamed!
There were no Parades
no Flags were raised
no words of welcome
nor words of Praise.
But things are better now
and I guess I'm glad
but it still makes me
kind of sad
for ' all gave some
and some gave all'
when we answered
Our Country's call.
