Back To Words And Verses Poem by Elizabeth Padillo Olesen

One can have a break,
a break from writing,
a break from reading
but the human heart
will continue to derive joy
from writing, from reading.

One may pause now
from writing
and from reading
but there will always be
that urge and call
to go back
to letters and words,
to lines and verses
to sounds and images
of stories
in time and space
that need
to be given life
by the pen
of a joyful heart.
