Balance Poem by Curtis Johnson

Balance

As a child, I learned about balance on the railroad tracks.
It was a life-long, well-serving, fun-filled learning experience.
We didn't fear the trains, because they enhanced the lessons.
We were dare-devils to a point, but balancing was our focus.
Not always succeeding, but I want every part of my life in balance. I do not want to be weighed on the scales of life and be found wanting.* I do not want to swing too far to the left and become an extremist. I do not want to swing too far to the right and become an extremist.

Balancing acts require courage to do the right things for right reasons.
Assessing many complex situations; drawing conclusions without partiality.
Long live he/her who longs to be both fair and square more than to be popular.
As kids, the competition was about being able to walk the rails longer than others.
Never board a boat or a ship in which all parties prefer to be seated on the same side.
Credibility will never rise to the status of respectability when there is no regard for balance.
Expectations are heightened regardless of the enterprise when the scales of justice are in balance.
