Ballerina, Spin... Poem by Shelby Barker

Ballerina, Spin...

Ballerina, spin…
Before the flowers are wilted and
To that string of pearls around your mother’s neck -
To hazy summer days and
Through breezes that caress your sorrows -
To seeing that little boy playing down by the stream
In overgrown, sweet prairie grass,
Wearing trousers and suspenders -
To the sky satiated in generous reflections -
A sense of passivity in chaos -
Wisps of butterfly colors -
Yards of ribbon to tie up your locks of hair,
Although we all know you’re a cavalier soul…
I see it
Are you looking?
I hear it
Are you listening?
To the music box playing beautiful heart strings?
