Bantu Love Poem by Black Consciousness Poetry BCP

Bantu Love

as shadows grew longer,
Leaning over the green
hills of our region.

I was summoned to a
kraal, by the elders to
be told that the ancestors
had called for your name.

For many moons I have been
waiting at the bank of
uMfolozi river, to offer you
this bead-band.

I would to retire with you.
lay my shield and spear
before you, yes i won'tfight
any war, except only when
I'm fighting for you.

I surrender my all to you.
With your permission i will
send the uncles.
My father's kraal is teeming
with Nguni cattle as many
as stars in the galaxy.

Marry me under the rainbow
and we will build a hut next
to the river, where we'll sing with
the whistling whirl wind and take
shower under the blue sky
in a balmy waterfall.
(We'll)lay on an open field and count
Stars, because anything is possible
with you.

I will write a Zulu praise poem for
you and you will Tswana dance, until
you are tired and light headed, you will
fall on me and I will fall for me, as if
It is the first time.

We'll laugh and make love over the
moon and our offspring will descend
as the gift of raindrops.

Our Clan name will flourish and our
Nation will rejoice. We'll slaughter an Ox
and honour our great Ancestors.
