Beguiled (Revised) Poem by Margaret Alice Second

Beguiled (Revised)

Put my head down and worked without
looking right or left because - yes, you
guessed, I found the doorway to dreams;
last night I went to sleep in a beguiling
valley where virtual reality is limitless

Floated through my day in the dream's
benign glow, the long, empty hours of
sloughing through tables and columns
went by without notice, feeling without
endless depression, safely ensconced

In a different version of reality, mind at
rest and heart revelling in delight - the
loneliness of being locked in the deathly
embrace of an ice-cold factual text was
filled moment by moment

My spirit was free and went a-wandering,
and though it is a one-off event I enjoyed
it thoroughly, every wish was fulfilled, the
dream packed unlimited possibilities
of reality to create a day in paradise

This is a mental high, a perfect day,
I am beguiled …
