Beyond Mountains And Stars Poem by Michael Timothy Rose

Beyond Mountains And Stars

When what I felt
was not enough and my words
could not be,
I proclaimed to move mountains.
I spoke gentle words of a sweet lullaby
‘til the mountains slept
and rolled over, and mumbled leafy dreams
of a far away time of ancient forests and Ents.
But I would have fought
and wrestled the rock of the hills
if that were what was left. I would have bled a trail
of sweat and of sediment
to your doorway
and stood
without blood.
And if it were necessary,
I would have lulled the stars
in a fantasy
of silk clouds and a caterpillar farmer,
and promised you a thread in the heavens strewn
in mulberry silk,
…and say,
“That star is yours. I
am the one beside it.”
And say,
“I love you!
-more than anything.”
More than everything.
