Black Maria ~ Crna Marija Poem by Jankovic Zoran

Confused hotel guests didn't know the name
of a dark silhouette that stood alone
in the middle of the night on a deserted beach.

They didn't even know if she was facing
with the sound of the ocean
or she looking at the hotel lights.

There was a notice, in a visible place,
at the reception of the newest hotel:

"A woman who stands alone on the beach
stares blankly into the hotel lights
while her ears still buzz the beautiful sound
of the ocean with whom she killed her love
but she only wanted to feed her vanity."

The last letters were written in bold:
"That woman's name is Black Maria."

Crna Marija

Gosti hotela nisu znali ime
mračne siluete koja je sama stajala
usred noći na pustoj plaži.

Oni nisu znali čak ni da li je licem
okrenuta prema šumu okeana
ili gleda u svjetla hotela.

Na recepciji najnovijeg hotela
stajalo je obavještenje:

"Žena koja sama stoji na plaži
tupo gleda u svjetla hotela
dok joj u ušima, i dalje, bruji
prekrasni šum okeana kojim je
jedne, ljetnje večeri ubila svoju ljubav
a htjela je samo da nahrani svoju sujetu"

Poslednja slova su bila napisana
krupnim, masnim slovima:
"Ta žena se zove Crna Marija."
