Blest For Knowing You Poem by Sherri Vogel

Blest For Knowing You

Grandma we will miss you very very much
Your loving kisses big warm hugs you always gave a bunch.
Your job on earth was finished on
March 9,2004 at the age of 87
The sun was shining all day long the day you went to heaven.
They say that time goes slowly and in a way I guess it does
It's a good thing we have memories to remember how time was.
Watching you grow older was sometimes hard to bear
That strong determined woman one day just wasn't there.
From someone who remodeled a bedroom to a kitchen had energy galore
Worked with wood, crocheted, and painted and oh there's so much more.
What a talented lady with a spirit like a fire
Who could accomplish anything in life that she desired.
For years you couldn't drive a car it never slowed you down
When a ride was not available you'd walk alone to town.
Grandma it's amazing all the things that you could do
I pray that you are happy where God has taken you.
I am sure that you're an Angel with wings and now can fly
It's just really hard having to say goodbye.
I guess just like you were in the end we're kind of fragile too
Thank you Mother, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Friend
We were Blest for knowing you.

************************************************************************** I wrote the poem above the same day I found out my grandma passed away. My parents were at the church, with some of my aunts, getting the funeral arrangements ready. One of the lady's who works down at the church said to my mom and dad that my grandma had a 'spirit like a fire'. While they were at the church, I was at home writing the poem. It turned out I used the same phrase in my poem without even knowing they had spoken. I thought that was kind of neat.
