Bottled Expectations Poem by Jeremy Willson

Bottled Expectations

Stepping out of the car
I stare up at the stars flickering like your eyes
I search for the moon but can't seem to find it
My fingers stained with smoke
I spit out my gum and stick my hands in my pockets
Struggling to find the keys to the house
I stop to just enjoy tonight's surroundings
So it wasn't what I expected
That's not bad when you take a moment to breathe
And listen to the silence of the sky,
The steady beat of your heart
Almost as if satisfied
It's surreal in a way
But it'll suffice
