Breast Cancer Awareness! Poem by Daya Nandan

Breast cancer is a scary disease that most people fear,
With about 5,000 Malaysian women diagnosed with it each year,
It can be deadly if not treated and managed in its early stages,
Where it is easy to control before the cancer rages,

Normally, it starts with a change in breast shape or a lump in the breast,
Those are early signs that helps put early diagnosis rate at its best! ,
Dimpling of the skin, fluid coming from the nipple, or a red scaly patch of skin,
Just some of the early signs that the cancer is growing within,

There are many modifiable risk factors of breast cancer too,
Like obesity, lack of exercise or smoking under the sky so blue,
A diet high in fat, high alcohol consumption and exposure to ionizng radiation,
May lead to breast cancer, the 7th highest cause of death in our nation,

Breast cancer awareness month is to educate the public to help early diagnosis,
To improve survival rate, quality of life and a much better prognosis,
We must do more than just pink ribbons and sharing every breast cancer status,
We must educate ourselves in the importance of screening with the right apparatus!
