Breath Of Hope Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Breath Of Hope

Spectres of darkness reign within
Where Satan’s demons smile
Where aching hearts are steeped in sin
And thoughts are plagued with bile

Whilst ignorance thinks nothing wrong
Whilst shadows cloud the mind
Gladly we sing our foolish song
Serving the devil blind

While demons cheat and tell their lies
While Satan seeks to kill
Our evil deeds keep blind our eyes
And hearts grow heavier still

Actions control the way we think
Words can the soul impede
Yet deeper depths we stoop and sink
Till lost in total need

Where ignorance; still wears a crown
And darkness takes more hold
The devil pulls us deeper down
And hearts grow icy cold

Though Satan seems our soul has won
Though death lays wide its doors
Calling to Christ God’s Lamb and Son
Will lock the devil’s jaws

The blood of Christ has conquered death!
Has freed us from disgrace
So hope remains whilst still there’s breath
And God affords us grace

Such knowledge is a treasure rare
To Heaven’s Gate the key
A guarantee with Christ to share
The spoils of victory
