But Only Poem by lolly cotterill

But Only

Think of love
Most often
In the darkness of
The night
Reach
For your embrace
But only memories
Remain.
Breath no longer
Warms the face
Look in your direction
Cold and empty
Space
Pain and tears
As only memories
Remain.
Sigh into
The darkness
Tears silently released
Heart breaks
A little more
Longs to be entwined once again
But only memories
Remain.
Sometimes a dream
Of a day warm and long
Holding hands
A meadow full of wildflowers
Take a walk together
A kiss lingering
And make new memories
That remain.
