By A Lucky Blunder Poem by Edwin Tanguma

By A Lucky Blunder

By A Lucky Blunder

I have been prospecting
For many many years
I don’t have much to show
For my blood sweat and tears

So here is a secret
If you plan to prospect
Do not trust anyone
Miners are like a sect

I made a couple strikes
And I wanted to share
But I could not find one
Who wanted to play fair

Every one I met lied
Yet asked where I found it
I told them a few lies
And watched them throw their fits

If you’re not in their group
They’ll treat you like a dolt
Beware of assayers
Or you’ll receive a jolt

You know where you found it
Take your time and study
You can do it alone
You don’t need a buddy

I know time’s on my side
I’m not in a hurry
To crush up my hard rock
And create a slurry

Oh, have I found diamond
There are times I wonder
It’s all where I’ve found it
By a lucky blunder
