Caged. Poem by Dorcas Tayire

Caged.

I grew up
Holding unto the hands of anger,
It was easy for it to ruin my life.
If I could turn back the hands of time,
I wouldn't have held that knife,
I thought the only way to ease
The pain was to take her life.
After all, I did for her,
The sacrifice...
All she repaid me with; were lies.
Clara, why?
I gave so much to you
I gave so much to us
Look where we ended up.
You, in hell.
I, in a cell.
We are both caged for life.
