Can You Hear Me Now Poem by Curtis Johnson

Can You Hear Me Now

The sounds of music are still beating, still blasting, still booming.
The sheer pleasure of life's blessings has enveloped usFor as long as we can remember;Even at times undeserved

At times we were stunned by the hurricanes of life. As we stumble into the sanctuary of the Almighty,
The mighty winds of reckoning are beating at our doors. And many of us are reaching our wit's end, filled with fear.
For a little season we halted and heeded as we were shocked By the onslaughts of aids, terrorists, and runaway oil prices.

Butwhen the forceful storms calmed and ceased, We returned to play again; When the forces of nature began to stabilize, We regained our self confidence; When the terrorists were met with weapons of control,We felt strong and respected once again.

Yes, we felt so much more secure and went back To our usual ways and our usual habits. Yes, we returned to bow down our knees once again To our many pleasures and toys.

But can you hear the sounds that I hear?I and you are surely listening to those same beats of loud music. However, could it be that the musical sounds we hear are out of tune? Is there any harmony, and is there any sense of melody?

The revolving doors of the world are screeching to a halt,And a questioning hush has descended across the seas.

As for me, I hear a lot of chatter, and my ears are wearing From so many cross winds like a noisy nuisance. The powers that be are shelling out dollarsBy the billions and soon to be trillions.

But again, as for me, I hear another sound. It is a voice that never needs to be raised. Can you hear this voice as do I? It is the voice of the Almighty GodAsking the question:"CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? "
