CUTE ONE, BE MINE, LOVE ME
Valentine’s day brings them out
BE TRUE, KISS ME, HUG ME,
Sayings candy Sweethearts shout
Jumbled like a crazy quilt
Field of pastel blossoms
pink, orange, purple, green, yellow, white
and now soft brown chocolate too
Spill them out
And hear them shout
Those mocking slogans
at you
NEW LOVE, MY GUY
BABY GIRL, ONLY U
MY SWEET, ONE LOVE
That’s how candy can torture you
MISS YOU, CALL ME,
SWEET ONE, MARRY ME
How loud can candy shrieking be?
Tiny little pastel hearts
Each bit of sugared bliss
can be a bitter poison pill
when you have no one to kiss
HUG ME, BE GOOD, MY THRILL
a message that can kill
Candy Sweethearts
Can break your heart
If you are
LOVE LESS
still
I have often thought of this many times. Very good. Ten! Sincerely, Connie Webb PS I think they may be better printing affirmations on the hearts like: You're beautiful, You're intelligent, You're Creative, You're Fantastic! Then the hearts wouldn't be as heartbreaking. Maybe we need to start a business? Take care.
Hi Mary. This is beautiful but so sad and so true. Perhaps we should teach the basics of loving oneself in school long before the thought of being loved by others becomes an issue.10 Thank you.
ciao, mary! this is bitter/sweet! very well done. how true! aaa
Very clever and—at times—painfully true. This made me smile, because even though it took a painful twist on Valentines, I remember getting those silly candy's and digging through the box and trading them for the ones I wanted.
Hi Mary Great idea for a poem...a concrete sweet metaphor...the candy gram. I'm inspired to write one now.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem
Your writing is good....I never liked those candies anyway! thank you.
