Chains Unbound Poem by Terry Hoffman

Chains Unbound

Torn from his home in ancient Greece,
Romans made him into a slave.
Bound to oar in galley ship,
his freedom he did crave.

Beaten and whipped, day in, day out,
he dreamed of his homeland green,
but knew in his heart that it would
ne'er again to be seen.

Then a magical day arrived,
when pirates destroyed his ship.
Escaped and swam with all his might
to life without a whip.
