Christmas 2018. Poem by Geoffrey Fafard

Christmas 2018.

It is so important
This season to quietly
Listen to
Whispered vanishing sounds
Go deep into
The remaining forests
Feel the shining water
Feel the scented breeze
Of this Earth and listen
To the insects listen
To the Trees listen
To the wind
All telling us
To go gentle
On this our planet
It is so important
To watch with open eyes
That which may vanish
The loving green wilderness
Violated damaged and sad
Simply there to shield us
From the tyranny
Of destruction and mayhem

It is so important
To show our children
The beauty of all
Things natural and living
Before Nature packs up
And leaves us
To fend for ourselves.

It is so important
For us to realise
The critical nature
Of our interference
In the balance of nature
For the sake of those
Shining little ones
Who are to come after us

From the deepest corners
Of the remaining wilderness
In my corner of the world
I send my wishes to you
For your desired successes
In 2019.

A small saddle backed Flying Fox landed at my feet in the jungle the
other day— he was panting as he looked at me with his bright eye…..! ! !

Precious little Whacka! What an amazing experience it must have been to have even SEEN Whacka; to have saved his life by being a substitute mommy flying fox; to have had him as a mate and a child! I am grassgreen with envy!

I thought he must have been an orphan. I can well imagine that the teaching was difficult, but uplifting and full of wonder. Thank you again, for trying so hard and for succeeding. You didn't tell me his name.

His name was...wait for it.....Whacka! because that was the sound his wings made when he was hanging around upside down and when they were flapping when he was trying to fly...! Whacka was my mate.

Thank you so much Diana... May your Christmas be peaceful, beautiful and a joy. Had a pet flying fox a few years ago. They can't fly without being taught by their mum. So it was up to me to do the teaching. Poor thing crashed landed a fair bit under my instruction but perseverance payed off....!
