Christmas-Xmas? Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Christmas-Xmas?

Mistletoe sprigs and chocolate moose
Circus on the tele’
Chicken, turkey, roasted goose
Bowls of wobbly jelly

Colour card greetings in the post
Great parcels in a heap
Glasses raised for another toast
Excited kids can’t sleep

But what is Christmas all about
Few people seem to know
For some a time to fool about
As children in the snow

While some who think there’s nothing wrong
With wine women and dancing
Others observe it through a song
With bells and reindeer prancing

For some white icing on a cake
Stockings full of treats
Children skating on frozen lake
Snowmen in the streets

Twisted bunting, lights that blink
Rum, sweet cherry brandy
Grownups chatting lots to drink
Children full of candy

A time of rest a time of joy
Of presents great and small
But who recalls The Baby Boy
Born in a cattle stall

Who spares a thought on Jesus Christ
This day in cold December
The Saviour whom God sacrificed
So few seems remember...
