Éclairage

Tick tock, tick tock
Beats the heart of the mantle clock
Its numbered face observes the room,
At the moment, veiled in gloom
The hour is late, the moon has waned
Crickets play a soft refrain
In the dark a lone man sits
Through his mind his memories flit
A single tear, a line does trace
A path of anguish down his face
How to endure continued life
With the loss of beloved wife
To lose your joy, your souls true mate
Your heart could easily turn to hate
A little click, a door hinge creaks
Slippers shuffle, child seeks
Sitting there all alone
A little hand finds grandpa's own
As he looks down at gentle eyes
His heart speeds up with sweet surprise
The realization she's not gone
In each little soul she lives on
Her legacy is standing there
Leaning up against his chair
He leans down and gathers in
The child, the love, the saving of him
