Clever Bird Poem by kara towe

Clever Bird

Magpie with your black and white pleated wings and your long iridescent tail of green you are a curious thing.
Swooping down onto my porch you squawk and shriek looking for a treat.
Cleverly you look through the front door screen carefully observing the scene.
You are after the food left behind from the dog as you hop onto a fireplace log.
Quickly you grab a piece of kibble and flee to a nearby tree.
You have four fledglings to feed and tend to their every need.
Your life long mate is nearby acting as a look out and waiting for a turn to try.
Both of you leave and come back again and again until the kibble is gone, every last one.
Watching you is so much fun.
Magpies are such a clever and beautiful bird.
To think differently would be absurd.
