When you were lost
I helped show you the way
when you couldn't stand it
I taught you to pray
when you felt quite torn
and were hurting inside
I was the one who stayed
close by your side
When you were misguided
I brought you to earth
when you felt forsaken
I showed you your worth
when you were going under
being thrown by the tide
I was the one who stayed
close by your side
When you thought love left you
I opened my heart
when you feared the future
I showed you the start
when you looked for someone
in which to confide
I was the one who stayed
close by your side.
