Closure Poem by Bill Grace

Closure

Rating: 5.0

When at the Empire State Military Academy (ESMA)
I stood in ranks under summer sun
sweat pouring down my back
for what felt like three hours.

Today, in sunset -
I sat next to the commander
in the review stand
and to thunderous drum
saw a legion pass.

That sweaty private
never even once imagined
a colonel's day would come.
