Comets Poem by David Pass

Comets

Rating: 5.0

The moon orbits us as we orbit the sun.
The planets do too and the web is spun.

A comet is mostly out in the Kuiper belt.
But briefly comes sunward and ice starts to melt.

Water vapour rises but doesn't stay
As the solar wind drives it quickly away.

The Earth was once molten with no water at all,
A surface of magma, a sterile ball.

It cooled in time and captured comets gave seas-
Life giving water for the birds and the bees.

A planet's pull changes a comet's orbit.
Comet Schumacher-Levy did Jupiter hit.

A comet crashed on Earth and the dinos died.
It could be good news or we could be all fried!
