Coming Back
by Ted L Glines
After a long time resting
between lives - dead
angels told me to return
and this is what they said:
One more time, just one more
to fully perfect your goal
but this time you may pick
your chosen living role.
Would you like to be
a king with endless gold
to wield such awesome power
in stories often told;
Or mayhap a famous actor
whose lines upon the stage
bring heartfelt tears and cheers
from folks of every age;
Perhaps you'd care to be
homeless on the street
learning to survive quite well
with not a lot to eat;
Oh no, said I
I'd not choose any of these
for they are cartoon people
using life with cliche ease;
I want to drink this final life
to feel it write it know it
and express my endings nicely
in the way of a poet.
