Condign Justice Poem by Bryan Taplits

Condign Justice

The snow was packed, the street a white bloom
I never saw the man,
His eyes glared bright-a dreadful sight
As into him my car accidentally ran.
When I stopped, I thanked God, as I glanced,
And saw a de-capitated gleeful-eyed snowman,
I guess kids thought it a good joke to fool old folk
Riding on their street-I guess that was their plan.
Apparently, they put in the road this tightly packed load
That unsuspecting drivers could never swerve to avoid,
I see them now- encased in crystaled brows
As they pranced back to the walk-all innocent and coy.
I thanked God once again that the damage I did was not to the living that night
But before I opened the car door and fled from the fright,
I compacted a snowball,
aimed, then threw it at the googly-eyed mannequin-
Yearning to howl out: 'Serves you right! '
