Conference On The Toilet Poem by Rosa Williams

Conference On The Toilet

It just so happens every time we want to talk.
My mom's in the bathtub or on the toilet.
Then she hears the 'knock knock'.
I tell her to open the door and she lets me in.
Then asks what do I want.
We start talking, I tell her my problem and the conference begins.
When ever she's taking a bath, I let myself in.
I'll give her a little scare.
Then I'll sit on the edge of the tub and stick my feet on in.
She'd play with my toes and end up washing my feet.
Telling me that this is what jesus did with his disciples because he loved them deeply.
Then there somedays she's on the toilet, then the knocking begins.
I guess I'm always the first one to come on in.
Then moments later you hear the knocking again.
That would be the other two, my sisters.
So we let them on in.
Thats when the conference on the toilet begins.
We talk of everything that goes on in our minds.
We talk about the past.
We talk of things not yet to come.
We basically talk about anything and laugh at all the things we do that are dumb.
We even sometimes cry together and were so into the conversation we forget that she's done.
So we all leave there and go to her room and thats when the conference in the toilet ends and another begins.
