Conscience Poem by Sankhajit Bhattacharjee

Conscience

The laws governing the state as well as a society
curb the sin as well as punish a sinner:
at times they fail to do so.
Then conscience teaches-
escaping from the eyes of the law
never means escaping from oneself.
Only the conscience-
the highest teacher, the highest court and the highest jurisdiction-
proclaims its extraordinary ability
to covert a beast into a human, a human into a God.
I fear no God, no law, no human, no sin...
but only my conscience,
who orders me- try to be honest to yourself.
